Framlingham’s Victor Meldrew!
Last week while looking after my Granddaughter I realised I had become a ‘dinosaur’ and a very grumpy old man.
While trying to tune the TV to one of the hundreds of kids programmes, I couldn’t help thinking how much easier life was when we had three channels. I would watch The Woodentops and Andy Pandy, and when I was older would happily wait a week to watch the next episode of Blakes 7, without wanting to binge watch a box set. I would be pleasantly surprised when films like 633 squadron or Where Eagles Dare came on.
Why ever would I want ‘On Demand’ TV? I don’t think I have ever demanded anything in my life! After I had shaken my fist at a passing, perfectly innocent cloud my mind started reminiscing. When did it become acceptable to walk about the streets trying to drink an exorbitantly priced cardboard carton of coffee (of which half is made up of foam)?
When did an Avocado Pear become just an Avocado? Why has Mayo become the summer condiment of choice, usurping the far superior Salad Cream?
I would love to go back to the days when I would drink Worthington E in the summer and Tolly Cobbold Old Ale in the winter, in a pub, people didn’t drink at home then.
I think these days we have far too many unimportant choices to make, whether that is TV channels or crisp flavours. A case in point is I have a collection of over 200 recipe books which include all types of cuisines from all over the world, but my go to recipe is a Spam sandwich with Branston Pickle!
This is an interesting recipe where the Hipster fruit and the king of canned meat collide!
